OTHER
Neo-Psychedelia, Ritual Ambient
I sampled various flute sounds and tuned them to the 9 edo microtonal scale before composing the parts, I also sampled some tablas. The percussion and flutes are often heavily affected.
Minimalism, Electronic, Ambient
Inspired by minimalist music such as ‘In C’, I wrote a number of short repeating melodic fragments that could all overlap, then arranged these fragments over a larger piece of music and varieties of synths.
Experimental Ambient, Tribal Ambient, Microtonal Music
Inspired by gamelan music I sampled various mallet hits and tuned them to microtonal scales. The inharmonic nature of the mallet overtones added to the dissonance. The parts are often heavily effected.
Dark Ambient, Experimental
I sampled Indigenous Australian music and heavily effected it to create dark ambient collages.
Neo-Psychedelia, Downtempo
I began each song with a lofi/hip hop drum part that could act as the backbone to an instrumental pallet I had selected. I then would improvise heavily effected guitar parts that acted as the harmonic base for melodies that could weave amongst themselves.
Neoclassical New Age
I purchased a 17-string lyre and learned how to play in a mildly unconventional way based on my finger style guitar experience. Using this I was quickly able to start recording some improvisations to chop up and structure violin and piano parts around.
Ambient, Free Folk, New Age
I chopped up Gregorian chants and paired them with acoustic guitar playing and the flute to flesh out a unique aesthetic. I also leant heavily on automation to give the songs more cohesion and a sense of continuous evolution.
Tribal Ambient, Psychedelia
I took traditional music from various cultures around the world and mashed them together, adding various guitars and electronic instrumentation to glue the ideas together and further develop the aesthetic.
Psychedelic Folk, Progressive Folk, Free Folk
A wide variety of folk music from the era I was most active in the genre.
Psychedelic Folk, Free Folk, Plunderphonics
I sampled and mashed up various folk songs and heavily effected them, including some old recordings of myself.
Psychedelic Folk, Tribal Ambient, Folktronica
I began by sketching out the chords of each song by writing midi, then divided these midi notes amongst a bunch of arpeggiated rhodes-style keys. I then filled out the sketch with various guitars and flute parts, giving a progressive folk feel.
Instrumental Hip Hop
I began by sampling the vocals of different soul songs that I liked, and paired them with a dilla-style drum beat. Then recorded various guitars and flute parts to finish out the tracks.
Progressive Rock, Heavy Psych
This album came together from a number of different sources centred around a heavier rock sound. I was practicing lead guitar a lot at the time so it features heavily. It has some great featured vocals from Calum Dempster and Patty Malarkey.
Industrial Techno
I heavily sampled the album ‘Great Fences of Australia’ by Hollis Taylor and Jon Rose to create industrial techno that borders on noise music at times.
Compliation
A compilation of my favourite songs that I made prior to 2024. It basically consists of my favourite of each style that I had tried up to then.
